The lowly Solitare tries to force its current, at only 1.5 volts (max), through EIGHT electrical interfaces. No wonder the damn thing is always flickering - even with constant attention to contact cleaning.

By contrast, Arc's AAA and LS (twisty only) have only three electrical contact points. The Kroll adds four more places for a dirty connection in the Arc, for a total of seven, in the LS.

StreamLight's TL-3 has ten interfaces, but with nine volts, it's less of a problem. The TT-1 has 9 or 10 contacts and the Scorpion, nine, too.

Pelican's SuperPeli has three volts going through four connections while their Stealth puts six volts through ten points.

Surefire's E2 and G2 have six contacts with the twisty.

By dividing the light's voltage (rated, not under load) by the number of points the juice must flow through, a volts per junction (j) ratio is established. The twisty Arc LS, SF E2 and G2 have a 1:1 ratio, or one volt for each conatct. Solitare is the poorest with a .187v/j ratio. Even with ten electrical junctions, the TL-3 manages a .666 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif ratio, benefiting from its nine volts.

These are estimates in some cases as I'm not certain of all switching contacts and may have failed to account for other junctions. Please correct any errors.

I must have too much time on my hands.
