Just got the Ombu X-55 from glow-bug. A 5 watt led light that looks very similar to the L4 with the exact same head design and pocket clip and the same size. The switch is easy to press. It has a orange peel reflector that is deeper and narrower then the L4. The hot spot is wider and the side spill is a little less then the L4 and just as bright. My led light was a execellent color compared to the long bows and other lights. The light is well built, with good grips. You can only remove the tail cap. Supposedly regulated for 1 hour. I only tried it for short bursts like 15 minutes and it just gets warm. It has a clicky switch but there is no momentary off so its less likely to turn on in your pocket. The switch is guarded and it can almost stand on its end except that the rubber switch sticks out a little bed. There is a very tiny donut in the middle of the beam that is not very noticeable only at certain distances. Its a medium throw light like the L4. It comes in a plastic box. Its a solidly built light and very cool looking. Is it worth 127 dollars, I'm not sure any flashlight is. But if you are an addict like me you won't be disappointed when you receive it.

Lightbulb and Craig,

I'd like to get some specs on the Ombu. Length, weight with batteries, body diameter, with beam brightness, pattern and and regulated RT directly compared to the L4. It looks interesting despite the unfortunate switch choice but it's a clear challenge to the L4 so a detailed comparison would be very useful.

Unfortunately there are no objective measures on the packaging or directions. But it is the exact same length as the L4 (about 5 inches) if you stand them side by side. The head is the same and subjectively they feel like the same weight with the l4 maybe a slightly heavier. The body is a little wider (23mm for the ombu compared with 20mm for the l4) then the L4 which makes it easier to hold for me. I actually like the switch, its easy to press and is less likely to discharge in a pocket with no lock out features. To me the body design and the black color make it look better then the L4. The beams are very similar with the Ombu having a smaller corona and about the same brightness though its hard to tell because my ombu is very white even compared to 3 watts and my l4 has a green tinted led. personally id choose it over the l4. The regulation i have no means to check and will leave it up to someone else.

So in summary just picture an old style L4 with a wider body, black, and less aggresive knurling, but very good grips with similar output. I love my light but maybe i just got lucky with the led color.

The LED color in mine is noticeably greener than the LED in my KL4. Overall, it has a very slightly cyan tinted white color; this slight tint is not at all objectionable, and most people would quickly shout "WHITE!" if you showed them the beam and then asked them what color it was.

Let's see if I can get a couple of photographs to compare the beams...BRB...

Left (or top): OMBU 5W LED
Right (or bottom): SureFire KL4

Both photographs were taken of the beam on an almost white wall ~5 feet away.
