I'm working on a project thats pushing the limits of my tools so I was wondering if it might be easier to use one of those online services. I tried the software from emachineshop.com (first result from a google search) but their software doesn't work under wine so I was wondering if others have used places like this before and could recommend someplace.

The most popular site for online quotes is http://www.mfgquote.com/

Anymore today, there may be a small CNC shop within ten miles -- it doesn't take a lot of room for three or four machining centers. Check with local shops or look for machine shops in the yellow pages, as not everyone advertises on the web.

Will they do one offs, looks like they are into quantity?

The website is a hosting service for any shop that wants to pay the monthly fee. Shops that subscribe will look each day for jobs they want to bid, could be a one off, could be a million, often the lead times are really short (7 day turnaround is not uncommon). Post what you need & someone, somewhere, will quote the part.

I use a local CNC shop for this type of work. His set up fee is $150 minimum, so one part costs $150 + $20 (for instance). 1000 parts cost $150 + $6.97x1000.

Cheaper if you need a few, as every shop will figure in a set up charge that make one off pretty pricey.

Ok, that kind of kills this then because I'm making one off's, time to buy some tools I guess. I need a 20mm drill bit to start with.

Nothing wrong with more tools, Bigger tools, or more powerful tools!

Same goes for guns too!...

and flashlights...

and cars...

and...

Actually my tools are a little too big, I'm having a hard time handling small parts.
