Hi everyone,
I am searching for several of Dorcy´s lights (1 pc. each).
These are not sold here at my place, Dorcy themselves seem only to sell to wholesalers, an the only source I found listing the lights in question, offer them for prices higher than for Maglites (which they also sell).

But when looking sharply on the online images of the Dorcy´s they seem to be of lesser quality than Mags. Are they (I mean in terms of global machining, beam quality not important)?

The lights in question are the 4 AA (size like a 1 D Mag would be), the 1 AA and the 2 AA (4 Led), all aluminium.

Anyone knows a source I could call for an offer?

Thanks
Klaus

The dorcy 1 led AAA, 3 led AA, 4 led 2xAA and the 2xC 8 led all have type II anodizing... I think they are pretty tough lights.

thanks for the info,
I also checked several other sources, but there is something not ok to me:
Some time ago I purchased a few lights that look exactly the same as the 2 AA Dorcy Aluminium lights in silver (brushed aluminium), except for not having any brand name on them. These were cheaply made and thus cheaply priced
(but made from Alu and therefore perfect for modding).

Now I got some offers for the Dorcys in question, but have concerns regarding the price, especially if they are even the same poor workmanship (I do not know this yet).

The 1 AAA usually goes for $ 6-7, quite an offer but even with workmanship.
the 1 AA goes for about 20,-- (hmpf, whats the difference?)
the 2 AA for minimum 25,--, and
the 4 AA for at least 35-40,--.

I doubt that especially the last 2 ones really are better than the Maglites one could compare them to (OK, there is no 4 AA Mag, but any D size Mag sells for less),
and when I regard Chaigs fotos on the Ledmuseum testing the 4 AA, I would be ready to say: this light has been made using a Dremel, and is not worth 40,-- USD!

So the question is: am I wrong concerning the overall quality of the lights, or do I have found the wrong (expensive) sources?

I think you're right on. IMO the quality is only fair and the online dealers are asking top dollar.

I've bought many mag solitaire and Dorcey 1AAA. The build quality, size, and throw is better with the mag but the beam quality and light output are better in the Dorcey, plus longer battery life. I can't comment on the others sizes but I only buy the small Dorceys now.

The newer Dorcy 1AAA 1LED, 1AA 3LED, 2AA 4LED, and 2C 8LED NEVER cease to amaze me with waht they do for what they cost.

And since I believe Dorcy lights are re-branded as Craftsman, I REALLY like the 4AA and 3D Craftsman Rubber battery life indicator lights (which seems to be another vote for Dorcy).

I know not for sure which lights are being discussed here however.
