Am I right in thinking that I should not use Lithiums in my Opalec, but I should in my Inretech?
What about the BadBoy 400 Q3L that I just ordered, safe with Lithiums?
I never have understood electricity!!

Both the opalec and the BadBoy are regulated and so it makes no difference what the battery is as long as it can provide sufficient current. I'm not as familiar with the Inretech dropins, but I believe that they actually recommend or require lithiums in their 2AA lights.

So you're all set /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Steve,

I presume you are talking about 2xAA's in which case everybody has been leading you straight. In general, the Opalec is safe on batteries up to 6 volts in supply whereas the BB should not see voltage much in excess of 3.3 volts.

BB and Opalec - No Lithiums (doesn't hurt anything, but no benefit except lighter weight and more expensive)
InReTECH - YES Lithiums

The InReTech AA is much, much brighter with lithiums than with alkalines!

BB and Opalec are perfectly mated with NiMHs and alks, but LiAAs are only reserved for cold weather or storage runs...

Inretech looks kind'a sickly green on NiMHs and alks...

The new Opalecs will even take up to 8-9 volts. See questions 4 and 5 here.
Also included is the method of determining which model you have.

I have an old, (5V max), Opalec NewBeam and have been running it extensively with 6 volts and it's been working fine.
