This is going to be a gift so the buyer will not understand spending a ton for a flashlight. I had a Fenix TK11 or Dereelight CLH1 in mind. It has to be excellent quality, no DX knockoffs... Just wondering what the best choice out there is for throw using 2X123's or 18650.

Thanks

It depends on what you gonna use it for. However, 1x18650's last quite a bit longer than 2x123's. As far a what is best, , , , , many many gud quality lights out there. There are reviews on this site to help Ü out.

Tiablo A9. For the price it is very hard to find a better "thrower". Pretty sure there is a CPF discount. I purchased the A9 from him about 3 months ago. It is a genuine A9, shipping was fast and items were perfect.

I can't recommend the EagleTac mentioned above more too. I'm pretty sure the A9 will out throw it though. But the T100C2 has a more useful beam while still being a really good thrower.

Here is a link to the A9:

Thanks to all for their input. I was keeping the Tiablo in mind also but it just wasn't appealing. In the end we went with the TK11 R2.

...But I think the T100c may be in my future if it is what you all say it is.

i love my t100c2. i could carry it around and bang it up and won't have to worry since its so low cost :grin2:
wait for the mk-2 version to come out and pick that one up!

The TK11 is a better choice if you are carrying it around. The Tiablo is too big to stuff in your pocket. Enjoy. There isn't any question I would prefer the Fenix unless I was just looking for throw only.

Of course I now own a Olight M30 which is about the same size as the A9, but I love the bright floody beam so much I find a was to stuff it in my pocket somehow.

"Excuse me sir, it that a flashlight in your pocket ......" You know the rest.

Sounds to me like you're wearing your jeans a little too tight? :nana:

Tiablo A9 fits in my pocket comfortably.

+1 on the Eagletac, definately out-throws the TK11 but has very slightly less output. Not noticeable when using outdoors. It might actually seem brighter due to the intense hotspot.

I have a TK11 and quite like it. I dont have the Eagletac so no comments there.

The TK20 is a good thrower for something thats 2xAA and warm.

+4 (or whatever number we are on) for the T100C2. Since it uses an XP-E, it has more throw than similar lights its size (because the emitter is smaller). It is also fully regulated with both 18650s and CR123s, has 2 modes, an optional tailstanding tailcap, a pressure switch (coming soon), and hard anodization.

is a 2xCR123 or 18650 a good choice as a gift?

+1

for Fenix TK20!! or if ultimate throw is not really a must, maybe Pelican 2360 (uses 2AA too).

Well, he went with the TK11 R2 AND is buying two AW 18650's to go with it... I'm proud of the new flashoholic. What a great light to start with. Now I just need him to join CPF.

..As for me, I think I will be checking out the T100C2... Sounds really good for cheap.

What is this mk-2 version you speak of?

If pocketability matters, I find the Jet I Pro IBS v3 with SMO reflector to be an incredible pocket thrower. The beam is a bit ringy with the SMO reflector, but that's not an issue outdoors in the real world. Great thing about this light is that you can program each of it's three modes to be whatever output/level/mode you desire. I have mine programmed to start on maximum, one click to medium, one more click to minimum... but whatever your desired choices for this.. they can be programmed!

It runs on a 14500 rechargeable li-ion, L91 lithium primary, AA NiMH rechargeable, or any other type of AA cell. That's great powering flexibility. And it slips into a jeans pocket very easily.

The T100C2 sounds like a great light, except for the fact that it doesn't have a low of any kind, dang it... that's all that keeps me from getting one of them. Not too horrible, though, for those of us who have other lights to get the low low from and don't mind that the T100C2 doesn't have a low. If Eagletac would just provide a low low, that would greatly increase the utility of the T100C2.

How's the beam on the T100C2? Is it creamy smooth AND throws incredibly well? How does the beam compare to the XP-E R2 Quark (which throws very well and has a creamy smooth beam)?
