Well I guess this is the place to post on this. I have an Optical Radiation Corp. "locator" helicopter searchlight. had a few of them a couple years back but sold 1, made 1 into a self contained mobile backpack unit, then sold it and kept this one. Well while in a rush my dumb azz wired it up to the 28 volt source backwards and blew out the starter/ignition circuit. I have figured out the components I need to replace. Anyway, I was trying to find out if any of you guys out there have any experience with these units and/or know where I can find parts and replacement short arc bulbs. Unfortunately ORC went under and has since been resurrected but is now an imaging company and no longer supports these beasts

thanks

I have a couple of these. The "replacement" lamps are G.E. Marc 300 EZS. I believe these are no longer manufactured but you can find them new on Ebay. However, you will need to fabricate new end connectors for both ends as they are not the same as the original military lamp, which I cannot find. Electrically, they are fine. I have no idea on where to find ignition parts. Where did you come up with the 31,000,000 candle power figure?

Here's a post i made on my light.

ahhhhh, I think I have seen those lamps while searching on eBay. when I bought the lights the seller had listed them with the 31 mill cp rating.no clue how accurate that number is but I know they're damn bright. got to love the x y gimble as well. I assume by you asking, im way off on that number? I have a spare controller board that also fails to fire the ignition system. I have traced it down to a couple transistors on the controller but I have to cross reference the p/ns as they are all obsolete. just figured it would be easier to replace the whole board. shame they didn't have reverse voltage protection (idiot insurance)

Thanks BVH for the info!

I have no idea what the CP is. I was hoping you had a reliable source.

I have a thread on here where I compare a couple of tank lights and also throw in a few others including the Locator. While certainly not equal to them, it does a very commendable job!
