What parameters have to be met to make an oring seal waterproof to, for instance 100 meters?

It looks like most of the home made lights, and maglites, has orings in every opening, yet at least the mags aren't waterproof. My PT Matrix has only one ring for each opening, yet is supposed to be waterproof to 200 ft. Are any of the home made tiny lights waterproof, or is there an aluminium commercial tiny host that is?

"while you're here anyway"; Do you think the S123LS is waterproof in any pressure?
Am I correct that the pressure applied to the lens is transferred to the black LS collar?

Edit: I mean the "firefly" I think... reading up on it now.

AilSnail,

If you are referring to the ones I made, The lens-to-bezel gasket is under considerable loading. I'm surprised I didn't bust any diodes. (That does not apply to those who continue to dissassemble them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) I do not think they would be good to any real depth, though. On the CR2 lights, the lens gasket is compressed to the point it extrudes inward into the aperature. I cut away the excess with an exacto after assembly. DSpeck got the design right on the firefly if the print I saw is followed. His gasket ID will determine whether it extrudes into the aperature and will need to be trimmed.
