This is actually a very thoughtful and well done report trying to address all aspects of various lighting sources, with LED's obviously on top. I have not yet seen a topic about it here. (Sorry if I missed it)

It appears to spell more bad news for my beloved incands.

Good post, LuxLuthor; that second article was a very interesting read. For their lifetime, efficiency and durability, LED lamps do seem that they are best for most common area lighting applications.

Its also interesting to see the impact of the little things:
For example, that the biggest production energy cost of the lamp was simply the alumninium for the heatsink.

Not a really surprising result. For a lot of items that consume energy and have a decent lifespan, grey energy does not play a significant role in the life cycle analysis.
Still nice to see the number though. Thanks for the pointer.
