How can this be?
the P1D CE is several dollars more expencive than a P3D CE which offeres more light ! So how does a smaller, cheaper to produce light cost more than a more advanced and more powerful light?

different machines, and design, better tolerances as far as I know (have heard from happy customers).

So basically, you say that the P1D CE is more solid and durable compared to say a P2D CE ?

It seems the only benifit is that it has no click switch.
Downsides are, you can not start the light in turbo mode

But still, in theory this light is cheaper to produce than a P2D CE because less parts and machining due to no switch installed.
I just dont get why its more expencive

The P1D CE is an older model introduced when the XR-E led was new and amazing and they could charge a premium for it.

I never said it was more solid or durable, it has less parts if that makes any diff..

yeah you're right less materials SHOULD equal less price, we all know in the real world that doesnt ring true. my ASSUMPTION, is that all of the lights with similiar design, with the same tailcap mechanisms, same lathe etc... would be cheaper to make than the p1dce because the infrastructure is already in place.

i also assumed the p1d had some fancy cnc machining, that COULD be more expensive to produce, s'all i'm saying, it's not a matter of blah blah this is new and that's old, it has less parts it SHOULD be cheaper! :naughty:

SHOULD or IS, there's an explanation for everything !

the HA3 is probably the same across the black range. only dave would know why the price is greater, i say, there's a reason why it is so, if there isn't then i am

It may also be that the head of the P1D-CE is smaller than the head of the P3D... it's really almost as small as it could possibly be. This makes it harder to manufacture.

When the P1D-CE came out, it was priced at a premium because it was one of the first commercially available (as opposed to custom-modified) Cree light. I think it was priced at around $70 then. By the time the P3D-CE was released, there were lots of competitors in the market, most of them lower-priced, hence the price of the P3D had to be competitive. At the same time, it could be that Fenix may not want to slash the price of the P1D-CE drastically because it may not reflect well on its initial opportunistic pricing. I think Fenix will have to keep on reducing the price of the P1D-CE unless there are already running out the stock anyway.

The P1D-CE is how Fenix made many of us absorb the initial cost of the Cree revolution. Less than a year later, I have a $30 Rex 2.0 in my hand.

Point of Diminishing Return

I've also wondered why the P1D-CE is more expensive. I really do think there's a point of diminishing return on size and I simply have no interest in the P1D. I do, however, love the P3D, which, strangely, is more expensive than the P2D but less than the P1D.

All of these lights should let you start up in a "turbo" mode as they can play a very real role in self defense by being able to temporarily blind an attacker. I've bought many of these high-powered lights for female friends, the first light being the Surefire G2.

The price difference by Fenix is a mystery. Given a choice between the P1D and the P2D, I'd choose the latter every time.
