P7 in a Custom 2D M@G

Just finished this build for my buddy that painted my son's BMX bike.

It's a 2D host with a single P7 driven by 2x18650 and a HipCC for regulated continuous 2.8A. I made a custom heat sink for the P7 under which the HipCC was potted. I made a Delrin sleeve to hold the cells. A small spring was recessed into the tail cap in place of the stock spring. As you can see I did a checkered pattern on the body and grooved the head. The reflector is a P7 specific reflector from DX which I slightly modified to fit the M@G head. To top it off a UCL window was used :grin2:. The beam is beautiful and it's bright as all get out. I know he's going to be pleased.

what did you use to pot the driver? can we see a pic?

I used Devcon 2-ton epoxy. I would have mixed some aluminum oxide up in it if I had some but I didn't. I would take a pic but I'm really not up for trying to pry it out of the body. I had to mill a few areas behind the board to make room for the wires and solder points.
 
wow , nice craftsmanship i wish i had the electronics knowledge too build this, since im not lacking the machining skills !

You don't need electronics skills other than being able to solder really. The driver has battery + and - in and then + and - out to the LED. That's pretty much it. Well you have to slightly modify the switch but there's tutorials here on the board to show you how. If you can use a lathe and or mill you can certainly do the necessary wiring for this mod.

Alumina oxide powder is not necessary for potting unless you are specifically potting to help for thermal reasons. I just have the habit of mixing it in since I've been doing it so long. :grin2:

Nice work. How is the spring attached in that pic? Electrically conductive epoxy?
