I recently lost my P3d and am ready to buy a new flashlight. I have narrowed my two choices to the pd30 and ta20. Please help me decide which will be the best light. I will use the light primarily for hunting and general outdoor use. I like the idea of the revolving dimmer system on the ta20, but I like the size of the pd30.

Please give me your pro's and con's of these two lights and help me make a decision.

Thanks!!

The mechanical revolving dimmer system would probably be easier to manipulate while wearing gloves. The TA20 has a lower low than the PD30....nice for reading maps. However, it's a bit longer, as you mentioned, in the pocket. Much heavier too, but longer throw.

IMHO the PD30 is one of the most useful CR123, two cell lights available in it's price category. The size/weight to out-put/run-time ratio seems just about perfect to me. The PD30 could eaily double as an EDC. Easier on the wallet too.

I don't know how you could go wrong with either.

I have the TA20 and use it a lot for night hiking and camping. It is a great light, but if you are looking for something pocketable, it is not a good choice.

If you are looking for a well built light that has a variable control (that you can set without having the light on), a great low (I test a lights low by trying to read my watch with it in the dark. If the reflection is too bright it fails the test. The TA20 passes with flying colors) and excellent runtime, The TA20 is the light for you.

I can't believe that I haven' t read the CPF standard answer yet:

Take both!

But seriously, the two lights can't be compared so easily. The PD30 is good for EDC, the TA20 for everything else where size does not matter.
Think about it: did you like your P3D? Well, why not take it's successor, the PD30?

Thanks for all the help guys. I just ordered the PD30!!

Oh well, it's kind of like buying a computer; get one today, and they come out with a new and improved model next week......
