I found a local place with both in stock..
I got 2 Stealth lights (1 orange, one black)..

the beams are artifact filled but they sure do throw....

I might try a sputtering one to see if I can clean up the beam and shorten the throw a bit.

what is the average price of the LA? I love the feel of it and the fact it uses AA's so this might be a keeper. (one is going to my brother who requested me to find him one for under 30 since I told him they should'nt be over $25.

BTW how do NiMH work in it? should I get a Rechargeble LA when this one dies so I can use rechargebles?

I've got an orange ten year old Stealth that I paid about $23 for then, so I don't think you'll do significantly better than $18 now. My Stealth and other Pelicans are all older but have few artifacts with extremely tightly focused, far throwing beams. I believe BrightGuys sells LAs for aprox $8; click on "accessories" when viewing the various lights on that site.

A "rechargeable" lamp module was available for the Stealth so I also got that one and use it when I use NiCds or NiMH cells. I highly recommend Pelicans as they are well made, waterproof, FM hazard rated, and reasonably light weight. Just be sure you get the beam type for your requirements as some Pelicans have tight spots for scuba diving.

Read somewhere in the forums (Search) that you could change the stealthlight module for a 3C version, and run NIMH's or NICAD's. The throw would be better too. Something to think about!

Re: Peli stealthlight for $18 and saber light for

is it waterproff to 500 ft, like in snorkling and skin diving at least (scuba?)??

it says nothing on the packaging about it and Bright guys list's it as "water tight" everything else listed as "waterproof"

I wonder if I should go pick up a super sabrelight or the black Stealh that was left.

The Stealth's lever type switch may void the waterproof dive rating. The SabreLite, Super PeliLite and Super SabreLites are waterproof as the o-ringed twist-for-on head provides a better seal.

Oops, I guess I shoulda checked the Pelican site instead of guessing.

you should easily seal the lever with o-rings....

Just double checked, it is dive rated

I dont like the 30 hour LA rating, that sucks.... but if the LA are only $6 then thats not to bad.

Just checked my local supplier, lamps are $18 Canadian!! (equiv to ~$13.USD)

Looks like I might mod my stealthlite to a luxeon!

Oh yes Skywlkr, you did steal them indeed! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The Pelican M10 lamp assembly works in the stealthlite as well. All 3 of my stealthlite lamp assemblies have quite a few rings in them. My 2 M10 lamp assemblies have only 1 or 2 rings and a more distinct spot. M10 is .8 amp bulb and the stealthlite is .53 amps according to Pelican. The only problem I've had with Rechargeables is they are a little loose so you really have to crank the head down.

That's a great deal - Stealth runs $24-30 around here. The Stealth is dive-rated, I use mine as my back-up dive light, and it's amazingly powerful for such a small dive light. I've had mine down to 100fsw many times with no ill effects.

LA's are $6-8 - very reasonably priced for a whole LA, IMHO. The beams are a bit messy, but in the water, it just doesn't matter, and in the forest or on the road, I'm so grateful for the throw that they don't bother me a bit.
