Pelican M6 Xenon Bulb Question

Great light...but bulb life really sucks.

Pelican claims 120 hours,my experience sez otherwise...try 60 hours as an average in real life.

At $12.50 for a replacement bulb from Pelican ( I'm on my third bulb in less than 3 months )...it would be cheaper to junk the M6 and buy an equivalent and cheaper light that has longer bulb life and lower priced replaceable bulb assemblies.

Yes,I actually use my M6 Lithium an average of two hours or more a day on my job.
So,the costs are mounting up.

Question one:
Where can I get cheaper Xenon replacement bulbs that fit the M6 ?

Question two:
What lights of similar size and brightness...,with a long life LED bulb are available ?
Suggestions appreciated guys :>)

I'm at the point of junking the M6 right now, just had another bulb go out tonight...sheesh .

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Does it use the screw in bulb w/the reflector built into the head, or is it a newer M6 with the lamp assembly being an integrated unit (w/reflector)?

Either way, there's no easy solution to bulb life with the M6. The bulb is over-driven to begin with, and with the light's design, the bulb's weren't protected from shock, etc (though the newer lights were a bit more forgiving).

Answer:

Newer type...drop in bulb assembly...no threads like the older models.

I'm searching for a similar drop in bulb assembly to bypass this monopoly Pelican wants to maintain on their replacement bulbs... :thumbsdow:scowl:

Anybody ever Mod a Pelican M6 Lithium to get around this problem ?

Thanks for the reply :>)

Why not get a SureFire such as a 6P? The bulb life is one of SureFire's key features. I'm sure you'll notice a difference.

If you want an LED then why not get a 6PL?

I've never had to replace a SureFire bulb or lamp assembly due to anything other than my own stupidity (dropping an MA02...hard). I've got quite a few that have exceeded their expected life span.

Tempest

check out fox fury and wise led. both have some multi led lights that are extremely bright (1000+ lumens) and ....leds making the bulb life a looooooooooong time. downside is they are both extremely expensive. a cheaper but still expensive (200 $) alternative are the new wolf-eyes storm and thunder. a new light would probably be worth it if you use it that much at your job. 2 hours a night of flashlight use? a flashaholics dream :grin2:

I agree Tempest...all my Surefire lights have saw rough duty and have all been dropped off ladders onto concrete floors and still keep on working.

The Pelicans are nice lights to look at but don't seem to hold up well under everyday working conditions.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion all Pelican lights are more boutique market lights than the SFs.

Just my experience after owning a few different Pelicans :>)
I don't dislike their products...I just think they are overpriced and not as reliable as they like to advertise.

We all have different uses for any flashlight, but for me it's reliability under abusive conditions that score the highest.

Thanks for the reply :>)

If you want a HL rated light, Pelican is hard to beat - I'd stick with Surefire for general use, though :)

how about getting the Pelican M6 2390 (3watt LED)?

somehow i got 2330, then their 2390 when it was out. bought the replacement xenon bulb module jus so i can compare their differance in 'throw'.

i was quite disappointed that my newer Surefire E1L tailcap clickie's internal spring is loose- i cant strobe in constant-on mode. :shakehead now am thinking of getting the Pelican 3310, doh...

I thought that surefire P60's fit right into this light. Its beena while since I played with my pm6 but if I remember right its a fit. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
