Petzl e+ problem?

Hello there,

I have a Petzl e+ which is only a few weeks old, and last night I noticed that the blinking (strobe) settings, both white and red don't work. They seem to operate the same as the dim settings. I tried removing the batteries and re-inserting them but still have the same problem.

Wondering if anybody might know the cause. I really have no use for the strobe setting, but being that it's new and that this was going to be my primary backpacking headlamp this summer, I don't quite trust it.

I'm wondering if anybody has experienced this. I bought it at REI so I can just return or exchange it.

Thanks!

Have you tried fresh batteries??

As the light is unregulated and runs on CR2032s, I'd seriously reconsider using this as a primary light. Personally I'd use a small well regulated 3xAAA light and feed it with lithium AAAs to save a few grams...
Don't get me wrong, I love the E+Lite, but Petzl advertises it as a backuplight for a reason...

It sounds like a malfunction, as in my runtime tests the strobe functions still worked with weak batteries. One thing I noticed was that as batteries weakened, the white high and low outputs were effectively identical.

I'd return it and try another.

The batteries are pretty fresh. I'm going to go ahead and return/exchange the light, I think there must be something wrong with it.

Regarding using it as a primary light, I also have a Petzl Tikka XP and Zipka, and find these are overkill for the backpacking I do in the summer. Here in Washington the days are very long in the summer, so I actually don't need that much light. I've backpacked before with nothing but a photon freedom light (with clip) and a red photon, and that was actually all I needed. The red photon is nice for when I need some light in the tent in the middle of the night since it preserves the night vision. The red led is what I really like about the e+.

Hi Dan,

Please let us know whether the swap does the trick--I'm curious.

I know several ultralighters who just carry Photon lights backpacking, and the e+LITE is considerably more flexible than those at a few extra grams, so you're probably going to love it.

I appreciate the ability to switch it directly on to the red mode, which is great for preserving night vision.
