Does anybody know if you can run the Petzl Myo 3 on lithium AAs? (This model takes 4 X AAs; it's a xenon/LED hybrid.)

I'd like to use it for a bike helmet light in cold weather. I know there are far more powerful bike lights but I want the Myo to multi-task in other roles.

Thanks. I bought one for me and g-friend. It's a fine versatile headlamp. No halogens breakages yet, in daily use on lithiums, cold weather.

I might add that one of my brand new Princeton Tec Quest halogen bulbs burned out in the first five minutes of run time on fresh lithiums. (Perhaps due to the lithium power spike when they're fresh.)

I didn't care about the failure because I later installed a cyan EverLED, which has amazing regulated output, as much as my unregulated Yamaguchi Badboy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The LEDs are just resistored down from 6V, so it can't be very nice on them, either. My uneducated guess is that they will still outlive the headlamp, but relaibilty may be compromised.

If you are putting $10 worth of batteries in every time, I am guessing that the $7 replacemnt bulb every now and then won't break the bank for you. Just make certain you are carring a spare.

You might want to compare current draw of fresh alkalines vs lithium to get a feel for how much you are overdriving the bulb and LEDs.

Or you can just get a Matrix 2 which comes with a white Luxeon (which is probably an EverLED).

But if I had to chose between a Myo and a Princeton Tech Quest/Solo/Matrix/Matrix 2 ect (all are essentailly the same headlamp), I would rather have the Myo.
