Phillips masterled tube failure

Hi all, i just saw in a large retail store a large number of those led tubes broken (off). Can anyone explain why those led tubes are already dead? Where are the 40000h of life span?

How do you know they are broken?

Did you ask if there was a circuit breaker open or that failed?

Were they all in the same section, or, scattered throughout?

While they may very well be defective, I would hesitate to draw that conclusion without further evidence to support that hypothesis...

Primary cause of led retrofit lamp failure is inadequate driver/voltage regulation design or overheating(inadequate heatsinking or unusually low airflow). It's also possible if the multiple leds are wired in series in the lamp that a single failure would cause the lamp to go off, that's exceedingly rare though, and if you've seen numerous "dead" lamps that's almost certainly not the issue.

They are broken because some are on and those are off, in 100+ masterleds instaled.
One tube has half leds on and the other half off :duh2:.
They are in scattered throughout the store in a grid.

I wish to know when those led tubes were mounted in that store to figure it out how many hours they were ON.
I only know that those led tubes are ON 12/7 excepto for christmas and new year

I was told that those LED tubes were put in service in october 2012, so they just have 4 months old and are already dead ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If you have a moment to go into any retail store, you'll quickly notice that any exhibiting LED lamp, whether its desk lights, clamp lights, show lights, or any undercabin lights that uses clustered LEDs, there will always be failures. sometimes blotchy, often failing in its entirety.

Also, don't believe the cover, and don't believe any warranties, guarantees, or performance statements. 3 years of buying, repairing, and rebuilding commercial LED lighting units tell me most companies skimp on heatsinks. Cluster LEDs just has more points of failure.

Technology?? No, LED's are certainly the way forward and a superior technology for lighting, the issue is construction and what companies will do for a quick buck over quality, long lasting products.

Technology is driven by sound engineering, claimed values is driven by gifted marketing. Again, don't believe the cover

Can you explain to me how 20 feet off the ground (typical ceiling height), you were able to tell that these LED tubes were Philips Masterled? They look, certainly at that distance, pretty much just like any other LED tube and there are likely 50+ that have some sort of certification to be installed legally.

It's correct that the LEDs are rated for 40,000 hours, only problem is, the drivers found in most of these LED tube lights are not. So if a large amount of them are failing, it's probably because the driver is dead.

Some of these cheap ones have questionable LEDs as well, questionable assembly, and as everything is in series one failure fails everything. That is why I asked for confirmation on being Philips as they tend to take quality a bit more seriously.
