Photon 3 reliability ?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

They may not yet be shipping the newest circuit in anything but the purple P3s yet. I'll have to investigate further to determine when the "new chip" models in colors other than purple will start shipping with any regularity.

I should have asked for a puple

MarkV - the MarkII version has the strap across the batteries. The earliest P3 models had a little arm that came over the batteries. It didn't make a very reliable contact.

Craig - chanik above said "The new P3 is available in all colors, but some distributers still may have inventory of the older style. If you order direct from LRI, you will get the new style definitely." Do you reckon he is wrong?

Speaking of chanlk, here's what he said: " There is a small percentage of old style P3s that kill their batteries and if you have one, it will be exchanged for a new P3. The problem is not known to exist in the new style."

That's mistaken; the one I got from them yesterday definitely is not new. It is not the new style, nor did it come with the battery protection tab.

I'm not complaining, mind you. They did send a pair of new batteries in addition to the P3. And, unlike certain other manufacturers, they did not charge a "handling fee".

I've had bad luck with the bunch I bought in April. I bought them as gifts. I think I'll wait until all the old stock is gone and the new chips are out.

I really like them when they work. I have a turqoise P3 that has been holding up pretty well.

I don't use it everyday but I like knowing it is there.

Update on Fusion Logic P3s

Thye following is an excerpt from an email I got from Photon's Bryan Avery today:
Since our last email correspondence (July this year), the only additional color available with the new chip now is the yellow
Photon 3 (Additional to UV). I have been told that the turquoise and green P3's with the new chip are probably only about a month away, but it sounds like the white is going to be a while
