Hi all,

Hope everyone at CPF is doing well. I am, bc I have a new light called the Photon Rex which I finally purchased after much debate. (won out over the new 1 X AAA / AA lights bc of price, size, output,UI, etc.)
I have a question for other rex owners. I only charge it using partially depleted alkaline cells for circuitry protection but I do not know when to take the charger off. The instructions say the unit is fully charged when the LEDs stop blinking..sounds simple enough.,but will it hurt if i forget about it and the unit stays charging after the charge cycle is done? (i read somewhere that sometimes you should take batteries out of chargers as soon as they're done charging.)
Thanks,
- the "Bat"

I have never heard of there being a problem about overcharging. Mine has only been recharged a few times, and I have not left the battery very long past charge completion. I think it is safer to use only 1.5 v. batteries for recharging.

Thanks for that info Flying Turtle!! I really like this light and the method you recharge the battery is neat and now I know to always stick to 1.5 volt batteries.

Interesting...I've also hearde others say you shouldn't over discharge the small Li-ion cell in the photon Rex bc it probably doesn't have over discharge protection circuitry. True?

I discharge mine to the point of seeing noticeable dimming. It's still working fine. Probably not the best idea to let it run down to nothing. I wonder if LRI decided the circuitry was not up to the 5v. output from USB ports?

thanks for the info guys. I hope LRi does release a usb charger, however, I'm happy with the unit as is. 1.5v batteries are more portable than my computer.

I'm also still waiting for the USB and the solar chargers. I'm sure it doesn't have to do with the 5V output of the USB as I'm sure they can use resistors or something.

Rechargeable NiMh batteries are even better to use than alkalines and their voltage is 1.2 volts, so you don't have to worry about too much juice.

Does anyone else happen to have a Photon Rex with off center LEDs? Mine are not centered correctly, i.e., the LEDs are pointed downward into the bottom of the reflecting surface a little bit. The result is an off center beam. I;m hoping this hasn't affected total light output too much,..any thoughts on that?

Batman, I bet they would replace that Rexlight!

I had trouble with my first two Rex's, bought when they first came out. Photon was great about it; their good reputation for customer service is well deserved.

I charge mine on a Radio Shack 2-D battery holder. I have left it on for days with no issues.

It really is a nice little light.

I have a question for you Rex owners. Is the per charge runtime curve like a typical Photon with a relatively steady decline in brightness but with a very long if relatively dim cycle or is it more like a regulated output with constant light suddenly dropping to nothing. This is important to me to know whether to use for a travel light or not. I like lights that dim steadily or give some other battery depletion status for travel room lights as I don't suddenly want to be left in the dark or at a very low light stage.
