I just saw this on video last week. As usual it was a recycled plot. About as predictable as a Friday the 13th movie. The twist was the defensive weapon of choice was light. To keep those alien bats away. Wasn't very good at disabling but good at keeping them away.

The ship seemed rather poorly equipped in weapons, tools and lights. But if it was we wouldn't have a movie. So what would you like to have if you were in that situation?

My wishlist:

Weapons:

1. M-14
2. Rem 870 sawed off/pistol grip
3. P-15 in .45.

Tools:

1. Chris Reeve Lg. Sebenza
2. Leatherman Wave
3. SAK
4. First Aid.
5. (the compass didn't work there)

Lights

1. MaxaBeam/Plasma Beam (the MaxaBeam burns indefinitely on X-Files

)
2. Pelican StealthLite
3. Several Photons
4. Krill
5. SF on all weapons.
6. Eveready 3D Cell flashlight with white 3LED bulb.

Pitch Black only can out in the UK this Weekend!
I saw it last night.

They were using SureFire flashlights - the rechargeable 9NT (9N with 2.5" TurboHead) and what looked like the smaller 8X. The burntimes were just a tad exaggerated, but no more than the 12PM that was used in "House on Haunted Hill"!

Cos the little things are so light, I'd have Photon IIs stuck all over me!

I would also have as many SureFire M6's as I could safely carry...

What about flamethrowers like the M240 with effective ranges from 30-50m, and only 2.7kg with fuel?

AL.

Now that we have more active members, a little bump to the thread. Has anyone else seen this movie? Looking at my 2 year old list, I'd make some changes with the developments in lights the past coupla years. I'm going to think about it.

dont forget about runtime. While you would want the real photon blasters out there to clear a trail. You get would get it while changing batteries. A narrow beam would be nice for some tasks but a wide beam would make you sence but the impact on the creatures would be diminished. 360 degree area lights would have merit as well as long runtime wide beams on the person so you dont get it in the back or the sides. The team should have a mix of wide and narrow beams of various runtimes and intensities so that the whole group is not changing batteries at once. I think ARC's hanging off of you would be better than photons. Do not forget the headlamps so you are not defenseless when your hands are occupied. A good headlamp could be a life saver during a battery change of the main hand held light.

One word:EYEFRYER!

I might want a Scattergun technologies 870 with surefire weaponlight for backup though

Ok Ok, normal survival tools are needed but these would be a standard survival pack. What would be differnt are the lights and weapons for this situation.

AR-10. Even the largest of these creatures appeared to be bullet resistant in the least so maybe this is overkill. The reason for picking from the AR family is the availability of weapons lights.

18 inch skeet bored 870 with SureFire package, the smaller ones were in swarms.

Lights

Special headlamp arangement. A medium power headlamp for decent run time on a Petzel mount with three Tikkas thread onto the strap, one to the rear, one to the left, and one to the right.

Arc-AAA/s with clips facing both up and down all around the belt where other equipment is not residing. Perhaps for the sake of logistics, these should be Arc-LS's and standardise on a single battery type.

360 degree lights of some type, will be dim but provides good area coverage.

12ZM with 250 lumen lamp rather that 500, 500 lumen runtime just too short. On the right side for emergency access.

Medium output medium runtime light on the left side for utility work. And backup defense.

Long runtime lights in jacket pockets. You might need a nap and do not want batteries running out on you.

There is always room for a couple of small E2's as deep level backups.

Highly reflective clothing to take advantage of and light the hits you.

Parachute flares as an aid when traveling. to use these, first the main Weapons lights would be shined where you want to go. This is to keep a heard from comming towards you when you launch. Launch the flare at 45 degrees in the direction you want to go roughly condsidering wind. This should clear a path for you as you move.

You've got to admit - Cameron got it right. When in doubt, take along or know how to make a mini flame thrower - there really isn't anything known that doesn't fear fire.
