I have just begun my career in Law Enforcement in the beginning of this year. I never really had much of an interest in flashlights but during my time in the academy it became necessary for me to acquire one. A fellow Deputy is a local distributer for T.O.P.s and Wolfeyes. Being quite cheep I bought a $25 T.O.P.s Aluminum Stryker (a 2xcr123 Surefire knockoff). When I graduated I was issued a SF G2.

The Stryker worked well for my training and after I bought the $8 clickie tailcap I was quite satisfied. Then in January it the batteries and I discovered the reality of cost of cr123. I was introduced to the SF P60L LED dropin and the obsession began...

I forked over the $40 for the module and I bought a box of SF batteries. I was very pleased when it lit up brightly with "dead" batteries already in the light. The Stryker has been my primary light ever since. I also loaded the G2 with a P61 for those times when I really want to light up a room.

With my new found curiosity festering inside took an interest in the all flashlights. A friend of mine had always swore by his 2d mag LED and I admit I kind of admired it, but I wanted more. I set out to find a better. One click on a Google search and I stumbled into flashlight-forums.com. It was nothing short of overwhelming. After a few minutes browsing the threads and clicking link after link about, Crees, K2, Malkoff, BOG, ROPs, MAG85s, Carley this, Wench Allen that, ect... I completely forgot why I was there.

My next move was to search "maglight" on Craigslist a and there was only a single result in my area: "New in package 2c cell...$13". I pickup the light a quick stop at the hardware store for a 5 cell magnumstar and a stop at the auto store for a length of radiator hose and I was in business.

Mean while I regained focus on my original task and ordered a Terralux dropin from batteryjunction.com and a 4c mag from amazon.com (in my opinion the best kept secret source for mags, especially C-cells).

While researching lithium Ion options I discover candlepowerforums.com and was once again dumbfounded by all the information available. I just revcieved my Kaidomain MOP reflector and I'm awaiting my order of GH24's. Still deciding what batteries and charger to buy. Also I have aspirations of building bigger and brighter lights in the near future.

I've gotten away with "just browsing" CPF for the past two months, but now the time has come that there is a question I need to ask (I'll be posting in the incandescent forum shortly) . I figured it to only be appropriate to introduce my self to the community before asking assistance.

I just want to thank everyone for just doing what you do and I plan on sticking around for as long as my wallet can handle it.

:welcome:

Seems like you've already been bitten with the bug. No use running anymore.

I have to say, this is one of the best places to get info about flashlights. Pretty friendly place too.

Enjoy your stay!

Big welcome!!! Big thanks goes out to you and all the other CPF LEOs... Thanks for doing what you guys do!!

Question about the T.O.P. Stryker. There are mixed reports about P60 drop ins and compatibility with this light. Can you use the P60L in the incandescent striker? Does it fit in the light? I' thinking about picking up one of those for my son.

thanks

Greetings from Greece1

What do you know. You are new and already your help is asked!

Here is one more question from me. Can you check if the Stryker and G2 tailcaps interchange?

All the best and as someone else said POLICE you wallet! Kostas

Sounds like you are heading down the right path, Deputy T. Don't forget to pick up a HID light as well. And :welcome: .

Kramer150,
The P60L fit's perfectly in the Stryker; also the P61. I can't speak for any third party dropins.

kosPap,

The T.O.P. and G2 tail caps are interchangeable. The T.O.P. clickie is about twice the length of the non click type.

Welcome aboard. I'm a long-time lurker but a newbie myself, although not a LEO.

There is a wealth of info here, but may invariably be cumbersome to decipher amongst the hyperbole, pumped-up enthusiasm, occasional misbegotten emotional outburst, and angst-ridden zealousness over one product vice another.

Be careful not to get entwined in the flashlight of the week roller coaster that will likely leave the most well-intentioned budget careening down a hopeless path in search of the best and and brightest only to culminate in a screeching halt amongst a pile of T6061 aluminum collecting dust in drawer full of faded memories and empty lumen promises.

Thank you in advance for your service and dedication to your community and the general public.

Stay alert, BE safe, and go home at the end of your shift.

:welcome: Welcome to the party that is this forum and this collection obsession! The more flerds the merrier!! Once a flerd, always a flerd. Stay safe out there and remember, a good flashlight helps with that:whistle: Have fun here, lots of good info!
