I am trying to decipher what this new DX light is all about. I am appealing to the collective wisdom of this forum. It's the MXDL ZD-5W LED Flashlight (2xAA/3V)

As usual, DX has little to no details listed for this new product. Any guesses as to the emitter? brightness and spill?

Help me LED gurus.

Emitter is A Luxeon something or a clone. Probably half the brightness(or less) of a similar Cree/Seoul/Rebel light.

I just bought the same flashlight from ebay for $14CAD shipped to Japan. It not even as bright as my hand-crank 5-LED flashlight. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18608&vpn=LFR-R101&manufacture=nGear Technologies Inc.

Needless to say I am a bit disappointed. I ride my bicycle to school everyday and at night the 5LED light doesn't illuminate the distance enough for me to ride the speed I am riding. At first I bought a made in China 38LED flashlight, the circuit board where the LEDs were mounted burned out the first 30minutes I used it.

Being a noob that I am, I was taken in by its 5watt lingo. Now I am just suspicious that it was a knock-off LED. I have emailed Lumileds, but they were unable to confirm whether its their product or not.

What do you think?

I think if you're relying on a flashlight for cycling, you need to get a decent light.

I agree with ya. I used to mount my chubby crank light on my basket. Now I have moved the basket to make room for a flashlight holder. Today I bought again from ebay a 11 LED flashlight+bike mount+strap+3xAAA Ni-MH for $7cad, but this is before I read about this forum or DX.

Is there any flashlights on DX that you would recommend for my bike riding? I will have the bike mount to mount most flashlights given if they are not too chubby. My budget is $20, since I have blown $40bucks so far on the failed 38LED, and uber weak MXDL 5W flashlight..

Thanks a million.

rukawa,

Well, first look at lights and reviews, then start a thread in the bicycle area or the LED forum if you still have unanswered questions.

I'd recommend looking at LED lights with the current gen high power LEDs. I'm guessing you want to use AA batteries?

If yes, then this light or this one would be a good choice.
