Polarion PH40 filter question

I bought a barely used Polarion PH40 through the CPF marketplace and FedEx delivered it this morning. So far I've only fired it up in the basement comparing it to my SLH100P and N30 (no contest). To one mistake I made was walking up to a white door with it powered up. :eek:oo: I may brave the cold and try it out in the park across the street.

I was thinking about buying the lens protection and light diffusion filters. Is there any problems with heat running the light continuously with these filters on?

Congratulations on your purchase.
Just make sure you get the actual Polarion diffusion filter and you should not have any problems. You can contact Polarion to be sure.

However, if you think you won't blind yourself walking up to a white door with the the light on and the diffusion filter on you are going to be sorry :D  .

Take Care,

I'm not going to make that mistake again! :ohgeez:

I just went out to try the lights out in the park. It is COLD out there. Lit up the small patch of trees roughly 120 yards away. I definitely don't like the higher bulb temperature of the SLH100P and it weighs a ton. The N30 was pretty impressive at that distance. The PH40 was of course brighter and had a nicer spill up close.

So basically the SLH100P will be the stay at home/cottage light while the N30 and the PH40 will be the traveling/hiking lights. Which one I use depends on how likely I am to loose it that trip (cheaper to replace the N30).

BTW, had all three lights going at the same time. The occupants of the cars going by must have been thinking "what the?"

I shot you a private email so this is really a follow-up.

Make sure the light you have has the small detents/groves in the the lens retention ring. This is where the filters mates up with the light and locks in.

At this point, I want to make sure you are not trying to put a Polarion Filter on an early proto model.

Please let me know. If it does not have the groves for the filters, I believe I can swap that out for you if you want to add the filters to you system.

As far as heat, there won't be any issue with the Protective filters. I have not run a diffusion filter for a lengthy period of time personally, but I am going to say that Polarion would have had to considered this when selecting the materials.

Nevertheless, I am going to do it personally so I know first-hand.

It has these four groves where it looks like the tabs on the filter are inserted then rotated to lock in place. There are also four smaller notches as well.

Ken what is the advantage of a diffusion filter other then a protective cover? Does it make the light shine wider vs. further? I have never seen any beam shots on the forum or Polarians website with a diffuser filter?

The filter radically changes the beam signature to a very short range, wide pattern.

I will try and post something in the future with respect to a beam shot.

I will also try to answer the mail on some images of me handling the PF40.
As stated in an email to ya, give me a couple of days.

I am off to meet my engineers.....Trying to get something way cool ready for SHOT, 1st week in Feb.
