I have a cordless drill/flashlight with 2 battery packs, one is still good, the other only puts out 4.8 volts. Some of the cells are bad. I took the pack apart and it is 10 Sub C cells linked together. These are all NiCad batteries. I would like to rebuild the pack using Sub C batteries ( NiMH ) with tabs and solder them together. I can get the same size Sub C cells with tabs using NiMH chemistry. I would still use the same battery charger for the drill.

Would this cause me a problem? Am I just better off using the NiCad cells?

the capacity of the NiMH is about double that of the NiCad cells.

I suspect you will do better by staying with NiCd cells. In general chargers and power tools designed for NiCd packs are not kind to NiMH packs and the pack life will not be good.

I have ordered NiCads - a few people suggested I stick with them..
