I have a brand new pair of PT 4 AAA lights, the Impact 2 and Attitude. They both have a small dark cylinder in the lamp assembly (perhaps .2 in dia, .3 inches long). These are loose and actually rattle. They're evidently intended, although email to PT hasn't worked.....

Anybody know what's up with them? What happens if you take them out? Can they at least be glued down?

TIA

I believe that these are catalyst pellets to remove harmful gasses from the lights. They need to be left in the light otherwise the gasses can build up too much pressure and possibly explode (IIRC).

The rattle isn't really that noticable unless you specifically listen for it in a quiet room. It'd be better to leave it alone.

You can glue it down if you absolutely have to (using very little glue so you don't cover it all up), but the best thing to do is just leave it alone and let it rattle.

The catalyst pellet was put there to absorb hydrogen gas from the batteries, so you don't want to take it out or cover it up with glue. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thank you Gents. Bummer how the maker can't seem to find the time to answer what's an important question......

I agree, it's a personal thing, but the rattle is loud enough to easily notice (at least to me), and annoying. I'm thinking of wrapping them in gauze or something similar.

CPF is clearly a neat resource........
