I recently bought two Princeton Tec Apex lamps from the US (I live in the UK)
After using one a couple of times I discovered it had cracked, there is a picture here: http://www.martinshakeshaft.com/snap.jpg

Despite contacting Princeton Tec twice through their web site I have still not had any reply. Does anyone have a direct contact email address, rather than the web form.

The headlamps have never been dropped or hit so I am worried about the design, has anyone else had these issues? What is thier customer services like?

Cheers

Martin

you can try going to their website and e-mailing them through their, however, they just got back from a holiday vacation, so they might be swamped with e-mails. if you don't mind the long distance fee give them a call they are open right now just called myself.

oh yeah incase you didn't see my thread if your interested i have found some apex's with red ultrabrights new in box full warranty and everything.

from what i've heard they are extremely helpful with their product warranty and will probably end up sending you a brand new one.

Just got off the phone and I have to say they were very helpful. They gave me an RMA number and said they would replace the headlamp as soon as they recieve it. Great customer service!

I've had the same problem with the Apex but unlike you have had very good results from my contact with PrincetonTec.
The problem you have is not uncommon. The plastic they use is far to brittle. Cracks have been reported both in the hinge (yours) and in the body where the screws have been over-tightened.

I'm not sure if the person that I contacted at P.T. wants his name and email published in an open forum so Private Message me and I will send you his info.

(for some reason I can't seem to Private message you )

PT has great customer service. So far my older Apex has not cracked or my EOS. Had some issues with the latch on my Aurora headlamp but PT gave me a new one. Maybe the screws got over-tightened at PT and came ready to crack on your APEX. I don't know much about the plastic PT uses so can't comment on that. But have heard of the same issues that others reported.

Good for you Martin ...... but I'm getting annoyed with all these reports of broken Apex s .

Apex should not be in the high class Headlamp field but in the $50 knockoffs from China.

Princeton Tec should be ashamed to be selling a product that has had so many reported defects.
For YEARS now !

*sigh*

Absolutely. I bought an Apex a couple of months ago. The plastic at the hinge has cracked and I intermittently have to take a battery out and reinsert it to get it to light up. So, both the electronics and the casing have failed after nothing but light usage in a dry environment with no significant drops or shocks AFAIK.

It was bought as a replacement for a Black Diamond Zenix IQ which I lost but which had done a great job over a couple of years.

I have sent a couple of messages to Princeton Tec and have had no reply so far. I suppose I'll have to call them but I prefer avoiding making international calls and I find it easier to explain a fault in a detailed email.

Grr. Really not so impressive.
