I have a ultrafire WF-500 incan. I plan on purchasing a lumens factory 630 lumen lamp for it. It uses two 18650 cells. The cells I have right now are the el-cheapo ultrafire unprotected cells. They have worked just fine to date. I would like to know if it would be possible to use two of AW's protected 18650 cells? I have heard another member say that you cannot use protected cells in series like this. Just want some clarification.

protected cells in series are perfectly safe, and I would feel much more comfortable recommending AW protected cells than having you continue to use ultra-fire unprotected cells. AWs protection circuit will handle the load of that lamp without hesitation. It should work fine.

Eric

PS [edit in]: You may have mistaken a recommendation not to CHARGE lithium cobalt cells in series, which is a different scenario all-together. LiCo should be charged as single cells, parallel, or only in series with balance taps...
