Hi guys! I am new to the forum, so forgive me for what might be dumb to some. I recently ordered some 14500 blue trustfire protected li-ion cells. They are protected. I did my homework on li-ion and figured I would try them in my 7777's quark aa2. I charged them up and put them in my light, and nothing. They are quite a bit longer than standard aa cells. What am I not getting right. I can get the emitter and tailcap on all the way, but it is a really tight fit. By running 2 cells am I over the maximum voltage rating for the light? Why is it not working?

Because the standard Quark AA^2 head's voltage range is 0.9v to 4.2v. Two fully charged 14500 cells equal to 8.4v.

Hopefully, the fact that you couldn't fully tighten the tail-cap meant that you couldn't get a full circuit connecting. Otherwise, if you did, you may have blown up the driver.

If you want to use a 14500, you'd need to pair it up with a dummy cell. Otherwise, stick with using nimhs or alkalines.

One last thought - if you want to use a 2*14500 cell configuration, you'll need to pair it up with a 123^2 head. The voltage range on that is 3.0v to 9.0v.

Well, looks like I need to fo more homework voltage wise. I am glad I couldn't get it to work!!! Thanks for the help.

Running these cells in a 1xAA body is ok but the Trustfires are particularly long and you are crushing the protection PCB a little.

My positive posts are almost flush now, dont want to ruin them so I have stuck to 2xAA and 1x16340/18650 in the low voltage head.
