It's more of a dive light than a spot light. Not a bad light as dive lights go. The dual filament lamp does produce some artifacts, but the stippled reflector tames them fairly well. Beam is more of a "medium flood" than a spotlight beam. Good spill, decent throw (but nowhere near what most true spotlights will deliver).
A much better choice for a spot-like dive light would be the Pelican Nemo. It has a much tighter focus, and a very smooth beam. The Ikelite Super RCD 8D light is brighter and has more throw, but it has a really gnarly beam so I prefer the Pelican. These are among the brightest/best throwing of the Alkaline powered dive lights. There is also the UK LC100 "Light Canon" HID light. It's brighter than the others, but is not as tight. More of a "narrow flood" beam. And due to its quirky nature it's not very practical for general use.
