Hello, I recently bought a PT Surge and it worked great for a few hours then I went to use it later on and it didn't work! I changed the batteries and have done everything I can thing of, but my guess is somehow the bulb burnt out, it doesn't really look burnt out but I'm not an expert on determining if they are dead or not.

Anyway, does anyone know where I can get any sort of replacement for this? It looks as though I need to buy a whole new light since the bulb is soldered in place on this one. I really liked the light too

Sounds like a manufactuer's defect to me. Just send it back to princeton tec for warranty repair or replacement. They stand by their products.

The early ones had some switch issues.

Take the battery carrier (with the lens assembly) out, and push in on the pin switch that is (was) adjacent to the exterior left/right switch.

If you have a GOOD bulb, and the batteries are installed properly, the light should function.

If not the internal switch may be bad.

If so, return it. My then new Surge had that exact problem.

I had a Surge bulb blowing up in the shop whilst the guy was showing it to me. Needless to say I don't own one to this day.

I own 2 surges and love them. One problem I have with my surges is that when I do a battery replacment and put everything back together when I turn on the light the bulb blows. I went through 2 bulbs before the next one didn't blow. I called their support and they sent me one bulb free. This past weekend I did another battery change but I removed the bulb before I removed the batteries and once I put the batteries back in and then put the bulb back in and turned it on..... GUESS WHAT.... There goes another bulb.. I'm calling them today to see what is going on...

Sounds like too much from the fresh batteries for the bulb to handle.

So how should I handle a battery change? Should I let the light sit for awhile after a change before I power it on?

Thanks for your reply.

The switch issue is never resolved. Mine pop out and PrinceTon was kind enough to send me a completely new one. It didn't even lit up. That was just a few months ago. The With nearly all parts made from plastic its wishful thinking of Princeton to build switches that are both fragile and need tight tolerances to work. It also proves AA batteries to be bad power choices. Align the batteries wrong and you have a potentially lethal device in your hand. Surge battery compartments are so tight that I have to pry out the batteries with a screwdriver while avoiding the all important miniscule internal switch. Before you buy a surge ask the dealer to show you how to install the batteries. You should be able to see how badly designed PT surge is.

illumiGeek...
I am using regular energizers. I called PT yesterday and they said to send them back and they will replace them. Before I boxed them up I tried with my other surge and put in new batteries. I waited about 5 min and then turned it on...Guess What? Another blown bulb. Go figure.

Thanks

Thats when mine blew for the 1st time when I put the new batteries in.....however PT was kind enough to send me 2 free bulb replacements so now I have a working surge! yay! Lets hope the next time I need a battery change another bulb doesn't blow. But I'm still happy with the enormous light this thing puts out at a fraction of the cost (123 batteries anyone?)

1) Surges had several problems, they should be fixed in the latest models.

2) If it still gives you a problem, it comes with a lifetime replacement warranty.

3) You certainly should be able to use fresh alkalines without problems. DON'T use LITHIUM AA!

For the record, since mine was replaced (was old stock - bad bulb sockets) I have never had a problem with it, and it still sees use fairly frequently as our "backyard noise investigator".

I sent my 2 surges back to PT 2 weeks ago. I called the and tey said they just shipped them back to me. They said they had to replace the battery holder on both of them. I guess something with it was causing the bulbs to blow right after a battery change. I'll let you know how they work when I get them back. I really like the surges alot for a all purpose light.

Thanks

My first Surge had a bad switch, but the replacement is on its third set of batteries, and the first bulb.

I would hate for many of you to deny yourself the opportunity to experience the shock of lighting up YOUR WHOLE BACK YARD with this inexpensive powerhouse. It produces the often overused "wall of light".

The only light that I have, that rivals it in lumens, is Waynes Tri-Star Phazer (three hell driven, three watt stars) at $ 120.

That is damn GOOD company.

Buy one, if it's a dud, get another.
