So now that I have built my sandwich (bb nexgen 750 and creeq5)..it overheats after about 7-10 minutes, is there anything I can do to fix this. If figured since my led came mounted to a 14mm aluminum board I may not have to heatsink.. I thought wrong. Now that everything is epoxied together I am wondering if I am screwed? I was thinking that I could use my dremel and clean some of the epoxy out from under the aluminum wafer and shoving as much copper under as possible. Anybody have any suggestions?

does not work,

the key in heatsinking is to get the heat away from the led/star

If You somehow could enter more material and this comes into much better contact to the light's (metal) body, that would give some benefits.

Just adding more copper/alum under the led means buying a few secs more till it overheats, but does not change that.

For a Mini Maglite mod, you probably could have benefited from this heat sink. LEDs and heat don't mix. The small amount of metal in a 14mm base under your Cree Q5 is no substitute for a real heat sink that is in tight contact with the flashlight tube to help draw the heat away from the LED.
