hey! im relatively new to these lights, jumped onboard about 2-3 weeks ago. and cant stop buying them.

in a past couple weeks i bought a olight m20 for work.
just received my nitecore d10, and have a couple of zebralights on the way.

im looking for a compact 2x cr123a light.
i was going to get the fenix pd30+ but saw the new quark r5 tactical.
anybody tried them out yet? whats the color tint of the beam?
i like the wide spill, but im not really in love with the quark.

was wondering if there are any other suggestions?

im not looking for throw, more so spill/flood or a nice combo of both, since i have my m20 for throw.

compact, cylinder type shape and fairly comfortable in the pocket is a huge plus.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:twothumbs

Love my Quark 123-2, I use a 17650 instead of 2x123 because it will run longer and it's still plenty bright. I use it for work over my M20 because it will tail stand. Super floody, with a tight hot spot that throws surprisingly well. I hear the new R5s have a bigger hot spot, though. I got mine in the neutral tint and can't wait till the R5 comes with a neutral tint, I may just replace the head when they do. If you want you can get an 18500 tube for it, but I'm not bothering because the 17650 has plenty of runtime for my uses. Best thing about the Quarks is you can buy different heads and switches to tweak it w/o having to get a whole new light.

The R2s are on sale now, I ordered a AA Regular and am blown away at the tint. I expected a bluey or purplish tint like an R2 I used to have, I was wrong. This thing is white white, no blue to be seen. I was honestly wondering if they'd sent me the wrong light! I bought it for my automobile emergency light but I keep thinking of ways to replace it with something else and bring it inside.
Use your CPF code (CPF8) to get an additional 8% off, and with the extra money buy a different battery tube for lego fun.

i just saw on fenixlight.com that a new version of the PD30 with a R4 emitter, rated at 265 max lumens.

now i really cant decide which to get. decisions, decisions.

anybody know if fenix will have new brighter version of the LD20?
i really want to get some 2AA lights, i like fenix cause ill be using alkalines for AA batteries. but think ill wait til more evolved lights are produced.

also ive read that the PD30 is not recommended to use at max for extended periods of time. is that so with the quark 123-2?

Keep in mind that 4 sevens rates the lumens of Quarks OTF, while Fenix rates lumens at the emitter.

Take off 23% of the Fenix number for high and then compare runtimes and lumens. (OTF vs. OTF)

If the 23% is not accurate somebody correct me.... But I'm pretty sure that the 230 Quark Lumens are brighter than the 265 Fenix Lumens.

Really? This is ridiculous I just got two PD30+ I can't keep up with it. Thanks Fenix for letting me know their was gonna be a updated emitter one month after your initial PD30+ release. Sorry about the rant guys just feel a tad cheated.

Question. I don't know this 17650 battery. What's the difference between that and an 18650 in size and capacity? I thought an 18650 was the same length as two 123's?

I have two 123x2 Quarks. They are impressively bright and have a very satisfying tint and beam profile. I like throwy lights, but the Quark beam with XP-G is better suited to most of my flashlight usage. The are also incredibly compact for a 2 cell light. Not so small that I would pocket carry one on a daily basis, but comfortable to throw in a jacket pocket. Definitely recommended.

thanks for all the advise, good to hear there are many satisfied quark owners. im certain i will go with the quark. and wait for fenix to come out with a new 2xAA light.

i was initially going to go with the tactical version, but after thinking about the regular UI, it seems to work pretty well. plus it can tail stand.

thanks again all.

The Quark has really grown on me, you sure you don't want a tactical it works great and setting it to the most used modes gives quick access to them. I really like momentary function and the feel of the forward switch. No pressure just wanted to maybe give you more to think about hehe you have atleast to Monday morning the earliest 47's will actually process you order.

Well I just received my new Quark Ti CR123 X 2 and I am happy with it. Very low low. Nice floody high with huge hotspot. The light color with the XP-G R5 is a little greenish so if that is a big problem for you stay away but I've grown use to the color and I'm very happy with the light.

I was carrying the Quark Ti 123 in my coat pocket but I've switched to the CR123 X 2. If I were carrying in my pants pocket the 123 is as big as I would want to go. When the warm weather comes back and I'm not wearing a coat with big pockets I'll go back to the smaller Quark. I also carry a Nitecore CR2 on my keychain but I've got an order in for a Quark Mini 123 which may replace it. I use the Eagletac T20 for throw.

The Quark Ti series is no longer available unless you buy parts and put them together (as I did) but the regular Quarks have the XP-G R5 too so are just as bright!

im sad i missed out on the ti quarks, for $100 i probably would of bought 3 or 4 versions. but when those came out i didnt even know what a surefire, or fenix was. i got so much catching up to do.

greenish tint? is that only on max? well i think green is warmer than blue.

i received my zebralight h501 in warm and cool, and after testing them out indoors and outdoors, in front of books and foilage, i decided to keep the warm version, and give the cool version to a friend for x-mas.

im still thinking about which version to get. my olight m20 has the momentary function and it cant tail stand so i thought ill get something that functions alittle different. i initially wanted the tactical version because i do like that programmability, plus i would use primarily 2 or 3 settings.

but the regular is very simple, and easy access to the output options. the way its set up it doesnt seem like beacon/strobe mode would get in the way much.

recDNA, any chance you can do a runtime test on the lowest setting and let me know? I'm really curious as to how long it'll actually last. Will that one take an 18650?

Thanks

George

If you want one of each you could buy one of the collector sets.

You can still lego a Ti Quark -if you don't care about serial numbers and as long as it's not an AA^2 version (tubes are sold out). It will cost 20% more at $120. Still not bad for a Ti light..
