It is the new R5, I want to remove it 'just because'. And, maybe to add some copper and/or AA to help with heat transfer as I'm using a 14500 (so far, no poof's).

Has anyone successfully removed the pill? I'm assuming it unscrews from the head, but using a homemade tool to fit in the 2 tiny holes in the bottom of the pill I've not gotten it to budge. Any suggestions?

Why didn't I think of that? I just thought someone here would have done it by now and would reveal the secret. I will ask him, and report back. Thanks,

There have been a few modded ones on CPFMP recently, so someone's doing it.

IIRC ZanZan was selling one he modded with a Nichia 219 in it.

They're the same as the Preon. The entire pill is glued at the threaded area. A little heatgun for 10 seconds will soften the glue. Take a fine needle nose pliers and twist it off. Remember, if you're using force, the glue's not melted yet. It should only have a little resistant on the initial twist to break free from the glue. After that, the whole unit will come off.

NOTE: If you're one of the few lucky ones, the pill will come off with the whole unit intact. Many folks ended up redoing the contact board when they piece it all back together.
