I was trying to get a few potted WA1185 bulbs for my mag hotwire and with no luck I got to thinking...1st of all here is my setup on this mag hotwire...

-5D maglite host
-UCL Lens
-Camless Medium stippled reflector (.377 hole)
-9 x 4/5 sub C 2200mAH battery pack ( battery tester reads a little over 12V)

Anyway after looking around I found that Bi-pin bulbs are easier to find...so I bought this kit from lighthound today...

I already needed the AAA reflector...and I can use the LED upgrade for one of my minimags...but what I was interested in was the bulb adaptor that accepts bi-pin bulbs to use with the potted base...

Now after thinking some more today I thought could I use a 12V mini halogen?
I looked up mini halogens and found that the 12V 50W bi-pin bulbs put out about the same amoutn of lumens as the potted WA1185 bulbs do...What I wanted to know is will the bulb be ok if the battery pack is puttign out just a bit more than 12Volts? and does anyone know if the pins will fit in that adapter?

Anyone out there use this kinf od setup? I have seen the mag HID's before but nothgin lie this?

Dont worry about the "just a bit more than 12Volts" thingie, that will drop badly when the second you hit the switch (nominal working Voltage for a Ni-Mh battery is 1.25V times 9 in your case and you get 11V under NORMAL load). leme see.........12V/50W bulb= 4.1 A current draw on 2.2 Ah batteries !!!!! i smell something burning..........aaaand the bateries WILL die mighty fast. Take my advice: use a 20W halogen with a built reflector like i did on the same 5D host. The only diference is that i used 8 17670 cells in a 2p4s config so i get 14.8V and aprox. 1.5 Hours of run time.
BTW i didnt mod anything on the MAG, like NOTHING exept removing the under the bulb parts, so it is still reversable.
Here's the ling with some pics, will post more if you'r interested.
