Where can I find a white LED to work at 2.4-3.4 volts and possibly lower? I've done some looking and haven't been able to locate any. Thanks, Mike.

You probly can not find such an animal. LED color is determined by the type of semiconductor used. The white LEDs are based on blue LEDs that use a phosphor coating to convert part of their light to yellow which when mixed with the blue makes white light. The make up of the blue LED needs around 3.6 volts. To run a white LED on these lower voltages you need a step up dc to dc convertor

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">It would be much easier to just use a higher voltage if you can and add a resistor.

If not you need to use some kind of DC-DC converter to step up the voltage.

The problem is space. I've thought about another batt. but theirs no room. As for the DC-DC converter, cost over comes the reason for the project. Thank for the replies.

That would have been my post on the solar lights. Ya, still working on it. That was my 1st post. Them you guys got me hooked here. Anyways, those yellow leds are still bugging me! I'm probally going to try a blue LED. I could break down and get the low voltage ones (uses AC), but what fun is that! If the light weren't made to be modded, there would not be screws in them.

Is this project a torch or something else that is being modded? I know this question has been brought up regarding those solar powered garden lights, where a user wanted to replace the yellow LED with a white one. In a torch, often batteries are available with higher terminal voltages that will fit... I guess hat is not an option in your proppossed project?
