Hey Guys, it's been a while since I have been here. Recently I decided that I wanted one of those Dinotte tail lights but the price was just too much for me to swallow. I have 3 dinotte 4xAA front lights, 2x200 lumen and 1x160 lumen old style. I decided to build my own Dinotte rear light using the older 160 lumen light I already owned. I removed the LED and replaced it with a cheap 1 watt red LED I had and it seems to be working fine but my question is, does anybody know what the driver on the old 160 lumen Dinotte puts out in terms of voltage or current? I have a feeling the cheap 1 watt RED led I put in is going to be overdriven so I want to buy a new LED that will work fine with the driver. Any ideas?

Now that I think about it, I think the old Dinotte were called 140L which means they were 140 lumens, not 160 lumens?

Look at buying one of these: http://ledsupply.com/lxhl-lh3c.php

The dinotte is probably current driving the LED. Most single emitter white LEDs top out around 1 amp, so I doubt it will put out enuff to fry a Luxeon III.

Not sure if the star will fit. If you buy the LED not mounted on a star, be careful as the III's do not have an electrically isolated base.

Use lots of heat conducting epoxy when putting it back together.

Can't use a star, the emitter has to make contact with the body for heat disipation. I have a feeling it was already a 3 watt emitter inside but I don't know for sure. I guess I need a 3 watt red emitter.
