Standard SF packaging:
First thing I noticed is that the threads aren't anodized like a recently purchased E2e:
Before even turning it on, I decided to install a Valiant Concepts tail shroud from JS Burly's like the one on the E2e. For anyone not familiar-boil a cup of water, stick the tailcap in a ziploc bag, drop it in the hot water and let sit for a couple of minutes. A pair of ground down needlenose pliers or appropriate wrench, and a couple of turns later, you've got the Z57 apart:
The Z57 has been upgraded in the same fashion as the Z58/9, with contact made through tabs rather than a flat plate. The switch button is also smaller(and red), and the retaining ring is now black Delrin(?) rather than anodized aluminum.
Note the thicker wall, and clear ChemKote(I assume). An AW 17670 that drops right into the more recent E2e will not fit. In addition, and as we all know by now, there is a visible step further down the body that further discourages the use of larger diameter cells than a CR123<<that pic didn't turn out well.
My few remaining E series lights.
An older E2e/KL1 awaiting a mod, newer E2e w/long clip and tail shroud, and the E2L with tail shroud:
