I've wanted an Ra for a while, but the UIs always turned me off. Today I spent some time looking them over and fell in love with the Twisty until..

..I realized that it didn't use a tail cap. If it had a tail cap for momentary + constant, but twisting it changed modes I would be set!

So I started thinking about this whole programming thing. I thought maybe it's possible to set one up the way I want it. I started reading the instructions for the EDC Tactical and think I might be getting somewhere.

If I understand it right is it possible to do this:

- Press for momentary high as many times as I want without something else happening (ie. press twice for strobe, or press and release for low)

- Then double click for the low mode

I basically want these two things with nothing else interfering.

If so, I'll be ordering tonight.

I assume you mean you want these two things to happen when the light is on right? IIRC a double click not only moved you from primary to secondary but it also moves you back to your previous level. If you are on primary or high and go to secondary with a double click, another double click will bring you back to your primary or high. If you want to access low consistently from any level you would have to use the triple click. Once you reprogram the light and use it you will find it fairly intuitive. Good luck.

Yes, that is true. Directly from Ralights (factory default) the tactical version has a momentary setting accessed by pressing and holding the button. As many times as you want. From the factory the initial "click" to turn it on defaults to high but you can customize that setting to your needs- in your case a low mode.

From the factory however the double- "click" just turns the light on to high and then off- assuming the light is off. If you double-click while the light is on it toggles between high and medium when in either or returns to high from low/strobe. It takes a triple- "click" to get to low. But again these can all be customized to suit your needs.

Dear Search,

If I understand you correctly, then yes, you can set up the Ra Clicky as you describe. The light has four settings (A,B,C, and D). You can set three levels to "high," and one level to "low," so that no matter what you do you'll always get high, unless you double-click with the light turned on to get low.

One of the nice things about the Ra UI is that you can access any of the presets without having to go through the other levels. The tactical UI is actually set up close to what you already want.

From off, a press hold gets you momentary preset B (max), release and the light turns off momentary and from on, a click turns on preset B (max).

You can then program preset A to what ever low level you wish. This will set up the light to:
From off, a click-press hold will turn on momentary preset A (your low level setting), release and light turns off from momentary and from on a click, press-hold-release will turn on preset A (your level setting).

If you want to access your low mode setting with a double click from on, then you also need to program preset C to your low mode setting. You can then program preset D for tactical strobe and access that with a triple click from on.

Hope this helps.
