Greetings. Long time reader, 1st time poster.

I work at a restaurant. So, occasionaly a bright light is needed. I carry my SL Strion in my pant pocket.

It has suddenly started a rash on one leg. To make sure it wasnt my phone causing the rash, I started carrying the light in my OTHER pocket. Yes, sure enough a few days later, my other leg started to develop a rash where the light sat in the pocket, up against my leg.

Now, has anyone ever heard of or experienced a skin rash from the Strion? Do you think it is it leaking something? The light on the outside & inside is dry.

Thank you for your time.

Yea it's probably all that friction everytime you take a step. If the pants are too tight it makes the problem worse.

The rash is definitely NOT from constant rubbing. It is acutally causing reb blotches & blister-likes on the skin. Pants nor pockets are NOT tight in any way.

Any chance the metal or paint from the flashlight cause such stuff? Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

I wouldn't be so sure that it's not from the rubbing. Even if your pants aren't tight, if the light bumps up against your skin from walking, etc., your skin can react. And skin's reaction against irritation - whether contact, chemical, or biological - can take varied forms, including that which you describe.

Buy some OTC hydrocortisone, .5% or 1%, and try putting it on - and find another way to carry the light =)

Btw, any chemicals that could penetrate the cloth of your pants and embed itself in your skin from the light, would have already been released, even if such a thing were happening. Which I highly doubt.

Metal allergies are not uncommon. Lots of people are allergic to nickel. Do you wear a specific type of pants for work? Maybe your allergic to polyester...

The Strion has a layer of Aluminum Oxide or anodizing, more specifically type II, over the aluminum.

Maybe you are allergic to Aluminum oxide or the pigment used to make the anodizing black.

:welcome:

Is the light clipped (not familiar with that model) to your pocket, or just laying lose in your pocket? I would suspect rubbing to be the cause as well.

Check the condition of your battery. Maybe its leaking/venting something not compatible with your skin.

Maybe you're also reacting to something from the pants (new laundry detergant, fabric softener) that's reacting most where the pants touch your leg, ie., where the light is..

Coming late to this thread, but I'd almost guarantee that MCMC has it right. You probably don't even need the cortisone cream. Try some heavy-duty handcream on the affected spot for a week or two and see what happens. It is likely to be worse in the winter as the air and your skin get drier.

Could there be a chemical reaction between the Strion and the fabric/detergent of your pockets? I assume that you touch the Strion with your hands to put it in your pocket. Have you noticed any problems with your hands as well?

A holster attached to your belt may be a solution. I like the suggestion of the plastic bag, as well.
