My son received a 15 minute charger for Christmas, and we were wondering if anyone knows what the difference is in the "I-C3" NiMH AA batteries that come with the charger and regular NiMH?? It says it will charge NiMH and NiCd overnight, but the "I-C3" NiMH are the only batteries it will charge in 15 minutes. Just wondering.
Does the 30 minute charger(Energizer, I think) take special batteries?? or just regular NiMH's??
Thanks for any and all help.

It's in the FAQ. Basically, the I3C charger with I3C batteries takes 15 minutes, ordinary NiMH in an I3C charger I3C batteries in a normal charger take longer.

Thanks everyone for the info!! Off to read the FAQ!!
I wonder if "Battery Station" has the IC3 batteries. Hmm...time to email. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have one and REALLY LIKE IT !!

I saw a WalMart (PA) that had them on clearance for $17.00 today. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I like them too and should get one with the 2.3Ah cells soon (they are already in the mail).

And BTW, there are plenty of threads about these chargers/cells.

I just got the new charger and cells and they perform as expected. Cells do have a little more than 2.1Ah after the first charge (with 8.5A!).
At the first charge they got pretty hot, the second one was much cooler, only warm.

As I wrote before, the charger now also charges other NiMH cells fast (1 hour), have not made a test now.

Unfortunetaly the charger again has only one status LED for both slots.

Wall wart is a switching power supply with 50W, car cord is included.

I noticed that too but the package says it charges 1-4 batteries I tried charging 1 battery at a time and took about 16 minutes for both the included AA's and AAA's. When they were done the batteries were just warm. Today I charged 2 AA after some use and they charged in 11-12 minutes and they were hot as nimh would be off a quick charger. Does anyone know what kind of difference there may be in the charging performance if only 1 battery is charged. And to what extent the lack of a status LED for each slot affects the charger and batteries.

Is it branded as a Rayovac?

No, it is labelled Varta. Usually the came out first under Rayovac and later under Varta, this time the did it the oppoite way.

Temp: All charging slots are monitored indicidually and sometimes the cells get warmer than usual. I could not see any difference if not use all slots at a time.
The first charge ever the cells got pretty warm (all slots used), later they did not do so.
Also the charge time is not constant.
Maybe somebody else could do more evaluation work, I will not have time until Easter time.
