First of all, D*** this forum for the amount of time it has coerced me into wasting
. I am currently a grad student, and this site has certainly cost me a few points on a few tests already. I developed a flashlight addiction sometime around August or September, due in part to a few paranoid SHTF-type friends, and I realized I wanted a good flashlight (or 10). The only thing holding me back from blowing all my money on this stuff is that fact that I don't have much money right now and am living almost strictly on government loans (hope my loan company doesn't run out of money!).
Anyway, I have a question about some pretty inexpensive lights I bought recently (and yes, I do have a few quality lights including L2D Q5, E01, LD01, Romisen RC-G2, magLED, Dorcy Spyder and a few others not worth mentioning). They are both Rayovac Brilliant solutions lights -one is 2xAA, the other is 3xAAA. The beams are pretty crappy and blue, but I expected this for the price. What I'm interested in, and why I bought them, is their claimed runtime: 70 hours for the AA, 100 hours for the AAA. What's weird is that the AAA seems brighter and has a longer claimed runtime, even though it has roughly half the battery capacity (3 AAA = 1 AA as far as I know). I don't have any measuring equipment (or even any rechargable batteries for that matter) and I haven't run either of them down yet. I am pretty sure that their stated runtime probably includes a lot of "moon mode", but to be fair, these aren't very bright lights in the first place.
Anybody know how long these actually run? If not, anybody want to test them (they're cheap!)? I could do an informal test of seeing when they die in relation to each other, but I won't be able to do this for a few weeks (flashlights in different locations).
