I can't answer your question in regards to the Maxlite 2's however with the Maxlite 1's yes you can take the guts were interchangeable between McE2s and the Maxlite 1 tails.

I need to correct you on that,the guts on the Std McE2s will not fit the Maxlite I tailcap.To make it work you`ll need the FlatTop McE2s Guts.
The Maxlite Tailcap is to short to hold the Standard McE2s Guts.
But the Maxlite is ofcource compatible with all the E-Series /Aleph Tailcaps.

So the longer tailcap on the MaxLite2 sounds like it just might be McE2s compatible.
That would be good.

Will anyone clarify about Extended Run Time Vs. High Output?
I assumed High Output giving max bright but shorter run time.

I am leaving mine as default to Hard Anodized Black and High Ouput
