really easy minim@g mod

This is such a simple mod that's probably been done and spoken about before but I couldn't find mention of it.
Simply using a dummy AA and a 14500 LiIon 3.7v battery we overdrive the standard minim@g to a nicer whiter output. Here's some pics:

the only problem is that my minimag was previously my put-the-dummy-back-in-so-you-can-go-back-to-sleep light because it was dim enough to help me see the floor but not wake up the boys, now she's too bright for that :sssh:

that's all just way too complex. I like the cheap and easy simplicity of doing it this way.
I think one day when I'm bored I might try 3 x 1/2AA NIMH with a shorter spacer if necessary.

Missionaryman, how long does the standard minimag bulb last for you? I tried it when I got my first pair of 14500s and the battery lasted longer than the bulb :(. The battery had an open circuit voltage of ~3.6V at the time. After flashing 2 more bulbs (I have a lot of spares from my LED mods) I figured it wasn't a fluke and gave up. It was really nice and white though :grin2:

I did this with my 1AA minimag when I first got it quite a bit. The bulb is very nice and bright. Tried about 6 bulbs (I still have a ton of them) and the longest I got one to last was 5 minutes. Most died within 2 minutes. But for those minutes, its a very nice bright white light!

So mine just blew last night, not such a good mod really.
About 10 minutes is what I got from mine.

If you were feeding the light on the right from a pair of Ni-MH cells it was likely not as bright as it would have been on a fresh pair of alkalines.

they were hot off the charger so 1.4v open circuit, should be about the same. It was nice until the bulb blew.
