Hey to all. I just ordered a Fenix LD01. I will be doing the LD01+Microstream Lego (have 2 Microstreams). Right now I use non- rechargeable Energizer Lithiums. Would anybody offer their suggestions on rechargeable AAA's. I would like to save $$ whenever possible nowadays.

Also, has anyone ever tried or thought about swapping internals from the LD01 head to the Microstream head to keep it clean looking? Thanks again.

Weclome to CPF, coldpointcrossing.

I have edited your thread title and removed part of your opening post.

I'm moving this to the Batteries section.

Definitely low-self-discharge Sanyo Eneloops, or Duracell 'Duraloop' (i.e. 'white-tops') NiMH AAA's which are the same thing, that's what I'm using in my LD01 / SL Stylus Pro 2xAAA combo. Duracell 'black top' NiMH's are rebadged low-self-discharge Rayovac Hybrids and haven't tested out to be quite as good, but I'm expecting to see an increasing number of them floating about, as these are now being packaged with the popular Duracell Mobile Charger.

The Eneloops / Duraloops are great. But winter is coming and if you're in a cold region you might want those Lithium primaries close by.

I use a brand called Instants in my Microstream, charge it up once a month as a top up and keep a spare in the car but never have had to use it yet,use the light every day for work and it has been fine.Over here in the UK all of a sudden the battery world has caught up with Sanyo and Instants, now have about another 5 or 6 brands to choose from.

With the cold weather coming I have bought some Lithiums off fleabay to try for a change but to be honest never had trouble with Instants.:)

If you're on a very tight budget, a 4 pack of Rayovac 4.0 (low self discharge, not as good as Eneloops but still decent) can be had at Fry's for $3.49.

I have been looking for better AAA's myself, have the eneloops but wish they had 1.5 volt aaa's. plan to try out the powergenix 1.6volt aaa's in about 5 months when they are released (hopefully).

could you explain that. Do NiHMs not do well in cold weather?

That's correct. Heat them up and they perform much better. That's why a lot of headlamps designed for mountains have separate battery packs that can be put under the jacket to keep them warm.
