I got this:

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=098

Pretty cool mouse. Takes a regular 1xAAA NiMH. The mouse itself is a charger for the AAA batt. It is charged through a special usb cable that you can detach and use the mouse wirelessly.

So the idea is to plug it in an hour or so for a week's worth of batt juice, plus/minus.

Always wondering, I can always put a regular alky AAA in there and it will work.

Not wishing to ruin a really cool mice by trying, I wonder what happens if I put a regular alky AAA batt and then plug in the cable charging it as if it were a NiMH?

My casual guess:

Unless the IC is smart and knows you inserted an alkaline, you would have mouse and battery guts all over your computer table. :poof:

Not recommended!

and then plug in the cable charging it as if it were a NiMH?

well everything was going great up to about there. couldnt you just use a alkaline AAA in it, then wait till the kids do the testing instead :sick2:

it might not do anything, untill the battery got low, then recharging it when it was low or dead, would cause it to break out of its containment.

if you put a alkaline rechargable in it like a renewell they are strongly sealed, and it might work for a while, if you kept topping it off. but i dont recommend it, or them.
