The local Fry's electronics recently started stocking "rechargable CR2s," packaged with a dedicated charger. I think they're lithium-polymer - "Juice" brand or something like that. I don't remember what the price was, but it was spendy.

I wonder if they'll roll out a "rechargable 123" soon? Look out, JSB...

The rechargeable CR2 cells sold here in Europe are the same brand as the CR123s. Also the charger is the same, just for the smalelr cell.
They are no Li-Poly cells.

They should be Li-Ion. Current drawbacks are 1) Much less capacity than primary throw aways and 2) extremely volatile chemistry. I do expect these issues to be resolved as technology continues. Lithium Polymers are much safer but have a much lower cycle life and cost more.

Idle...
I had those 123s long before Fry, I had them at the Beginning of February. I could have been selling those all along but chose not to. Big Kaboom risk...not just me saying that, After the maker of those tired them in some of my lights...It scared the manufacturer as well.

That company has all sorts of photo-lithium substitute rechargables - 123, CR2, V3 (2xAA form-factor)... They certainly look like a good deal - $35 for a charger, wall-wart, auto adaptor, and one cell. Cells are $10 each.

Fry's carries all sorts of oddball brands, so it's of no surprise that these have their shortcomings. 'Sounds like they don't handle high-discharge currents very well.

most important factor is the cells at Fry's are more than likely the ones without ocerdischarge protection.

I've seen Powertech 600mAH Li-Ions with built-in protection circuit for sale at Jaycar Electronics (sounds a bit like Fry's). They come with a wall wart and car adaptor. Are these likely to be the same as the ones mentioned above? Actually, the cells themselves are not branded, only the packaging is.

I am skeptical that this capacity can be had in the CR2 form factor with current Li-ion technology.
