I know the Vf of the red and orange 1W Luxeons is lower than that of the green/cyan/blue/royal blue/white emitters. Can anyone offer me advice on if it would be suitable to operate a red or amber emitter with a BadBoy 400 converter driven with two NiMH AAs? I will never be using alkalines or lithium L91s in this application. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this before, and if so, what their results are. Thanks for any input!

the "reddish" colored luxeons are much more suseptable to heat than the other ones.

400ma isn't overdriving too hard, and is probably a good level of overdrive for the reddish ones, but they must have excellent heatsinking. moreso than the other colors...

if used in a "sandwhich" configuration, the heatsinking probably isnt' good enough...
furthermore, if using in this fashion, you need to take care to isolate the slug of the emitter, since the reddish colored slugs are of a different polarity.

Looks like I won't be building a red BB400 then /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the info, Lathe Monster! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
