Regulating a Streamlight 4AA LED?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I'm a happy owner of a number of LED flashlights, among them Streamlight 4AA LED, CMG Reactor, MiniMag with Opalec NewBeam, and a whole bunch of those cheap Eveready 2-LED folding lanterns (the latter work great to leave running around the house during a nightime power outage).

Of these lights, my favorite for overall usability is the Streamlight, but I really REALLY wish its output were regulated! For a quick partial solution I've put lithium batteries in it, but that makes me nervous given the increased temperatures these produce with this light.

Does anyone know of any mods having been done to the Streamlight to regulate its output?

You might try using 3 lithium batteries in conjunction with a dummy AA cell. This would lessen the danger of over-driving the 4AA and would also provide a flatter discharge curve.

I would be careful about using 4 lithiums in the SL7 4AA because this light is already massively overdriven with just alkaline AAs.
