just got a magcharger off the bay and need to repair it. what i need to know is how to remove the switch because it doesnt come out like the normal ones do. is there any way to remove the head? finaly there is corrosion on the inside, any tips on cleanin it out

The MagCharger comes apart differently than the regular mag:

1) Unscrew the bezel ring and pull out the windown and reflector.

2) Pop out the rubber switch cover.

3) Unscrew the head from the top metal charging ring. This means you have

to put a strap wrench on the head and another on the top charging ring.

4) Slide the reflector housing down the head/switch assembly and off the

assembly (toward the rear).

5) Pop the switch out of the head assembly. You don't need the 5/64 allen

wrench. It just comes out. The charging rings remain with the bottom tube

and you don't have to mess with them.

Unless you like tinkering with it, why not just go ahead and purchase a brand new one. MagChargers can be had for like $81.20 and less online.

Enjoy!

yea the light needs to go back to mag for a spa treatment but i cleaned as best i could. i got this mag w/ charger aND no battery for 41 shipped and a blue 3d cell that i fixed. i figure 10 for the 3d and 30 for the magcharger plus 25 for batt and shipping back to mag. any experience with mag cust serrvice? the light has bad corrosion on the tube and there is a dent in it. the positive contact plate was loose and i had to press it back in.

Mag customer service couldn't have been more helpful. Mag will give you name of a couple of warranty centers close to you. I had my choice of sending it to the Florida panhandle or Atlanta. I chose the panhandle. Called the center (more of a mom & pop electronics repair shop from the sound of it) and had a nice conversation.

They told me to send the light, charger, battery stick and bulbs. They said they would do a complete check of everything and replace any defective parts. For for the price of shipping to them I could have theoretically gotten a complete overhaul.

In my case it was just a switch. But remember Mag doesn't warranty battery sticks or bulbs. And I'm not sure how they handle corrosion issues. I imagine if it was a Mag battery stick they wouldn't give you a hard time.

I mailed light via USPS on a Saturday. Got light back via UPS on a Thursday. I would rate it as a 9.5/10.

A bit late with my reply but this is the sort of thing which sets a MagCharger purchase apart from the rest.

This will continue whilst Mr Maglica is alive-no farming the work out, no move to China and not honouring the Lifetime Warranty like Inova, no weedy excuses, no arguing the toss.

Old fashioned values like this are getting harder to find by the day....

All my experiences with the Maglite repair department have also been exceptionally good. A+++

Yep. While a conversation about American made goods could quickly degenerate into a conversation about the global economy, it's good to know that you can still buy a good product at an excellent price.

In rethinking this from my original post 3 1/2 years (where did that time go?) I think I probably could have asked them to send me a shipping label and had them recoup that cost from Mag. Don't know for sure but either way for less than $10 I got my MC working.
