With the recent legal decision regarding SF vs. Pentagonlight it seems PL replacement parts will be hard to come by. Does anyone know if any non Pentagonlight bulb assemblies will work in a PL X3? I found an earlier thread which stated that SF and PL bulb assemblies were interchangeable. I just want to be sure I don't waste time and money ordering something that won't work.

Welcome to CPF, and thanks for supporting PentagonLight!

To be honest I can't find any incan bulb replacements for the X3. I don't have any incandescent models from PL, so it's hard to say. You might want to shoot PentagonLight an email or give them a call, they might be able to help you. While they can no longer sell/distribute anything, they are still very much open for business to service/warranty your light.

Besides that, you can always get an LED drop-in from Malkoff!

Wow! Someone beat me to it. I was going to create this exact same thread. I need some inca options for my X3 as well.

i don't think malkoff makes LED drop ins for pentagon anything but you might could ask and if there is enough demand he might.
someone suggested to me a while back that you could look into having a milky mod worked up for it. regardless, all current options sound expensive.
the x3 was one of my 1st lights and a very well made piece. the problem with it is that there is no after market products for this light.

The X3 PL bulb assembly looks similar to some of the ones I found on Lighthound's site. I need to measure my bulb assembly to see if any of the LED or 9V assemblies will fit.

I called PL on Friday and regardless of which menu option you hit I was sent to the same "were not here" voice message. I will try on Monday to see if they had a long weekend off or not.

Using a tape measure, here are the measurements for the Pentagonlight B-X3
lamp:

Outer diameter - 1 5/16" It looks like it is just
under the 5/16 but I do not have any precise calipers
to confirm this, only a tape measure. The module does
not fit in too tight inside the head but this is most
likely to allow for some expansion as the unit heats
up.
Length of reflector (the silver part) - 1 7/16"
Lenght of entire unit including larger spring - 1
15/16" This could be longer in a newer unit due to
spring compression. I have had the original bulb in
the light for the past 5 or so years.

The unit I currently have can be found at:

I have great news! The Malkoff M30 fits in the PentagonLight PX1 (one-cell Xenon light), so the M60 might possibly work in the X2, etc. Unfortunately the X3's bezel is a full 1/4" wider than its little brothers, so the Malkoff will be a bit loose. If one can rig up some kind of "cushion" to fit one in there I suppose it can be pulled off.

If you do get a Milkymod on your PL I believe it's a first here on CPF!

It's weird because I was going to mention your name to see if you'd chime in!:twothumbs

Yeah they probably took a long Christmas break, if they're still not open tomorrow I'd give them a try after New Years.

Any word form PL?:)

I spoke with the operator this morning. They are "working out the details" and we should see what products and accessories they will and will not sell on their website soon. Nothing more specific was provided.

hey dudemar,
i would get a kick out of someone modding a PLx2 m30 to fit an m30. the way the glass meets the bezel and the way the bezel is engineered would be a real trick but i bet it could be done.
i don't think i will be the one to have a milky mod on my PL. i will leave that to others with more vision than i.

That's great news, hopefully they'll start selling stuff soon.:grin2:

I talked to them a few days ago and i was told, they still didn't know if they will stay in business or not.Too bad.

Perhaps it's not too surprising to hear this in today's financial climate.:sigh:

Yes, it definitely would be a fun mod. I don't have the cash to do a Milkymod right now, so you can count me out too. Would love to do it, though.

As far as vision goes, that would be up to Scott. The real problem is, what would you do if the tailcap on your Milky modded PL broke? Not like replacement ones are easy to find, not even aftermarket variations. With many of Scott's creations, you can just screw the head onto another Surefire body.... or Leef body.... or FiveMega body. Good luck tracking down another PL body or tailcap since their hand-held models were never popular enough to warrant aftermarket support.

That was fine.... until the company got sued by SF and is now temporarily out of business. (And the situation is likely to get worse).

I have great news! I tried a SF 6P tailcap on my PL L2... and it works!:grin2:

This is an interesting thread, since my buddy (non-flashaholic) just bought an X3 and I'm looking to mods for it. DX sells a 35mm reflector that apparently takes some P60 pills, so I might be able to machine down the lip to fit in the bezel, but I'm also looking to get him a pack of replacement lenses. Anyone got a caliper that can take precise lens measurements?

Bad news & Good news....

The good news is, a Surefire z41 tailcap will indeed screw onto an X3.

Bad news, while it fits, it doesn't work. :(

(Tried it more than once. The z41 works perfectly on my Leef-bodied 9P, but won't work on a PL X3).
